Snowing again

This is unbelievable.
I will not be able to try my new motorcycle before our departure.
The weather is just not cooperating.
A little bit more shopping today for the trip.
Mike wants some pants like mine. For hot weather they would be the best because of the mesh fabric they are made with.
I also like the protection at the knee and butt.
They are also water, weather proof.
We do not know what kind of weather we going to get.

Hot weather

It actually snowed today, here in New Brunswick ! And yet, what worries me the most is how hot it is going to be on our trip. Mike has being looking at the temperature trend in usa for a while now and it seems to be cooler than usual, that is good news for us Canadians not use to hot weather .
Has long as we do not get snow....
So preparing mentally for the challenge.
Less than two weeks as hubby likes to remind me!
So long.

Tall windscreen on

This morning 6 o'clock hubby and myself were installing windscreen on my bike. Now Mke is working on my foot pegs . I will have some beautiful floorboards foot rest!
After that pretty much done. Coat of paint on everything and bikes ready.
It is snowing in Caraquet so no biking that way!  πŸ˜–
I will still try to put a bit of mileage on the bike to maybe try to get the first change of oil. And first service before we leave.
So that is what is going on so far...

Easy peasy this quilter tought

I made a quilt with hand spun .
It is a little baby quilt. It is a pattern Lynn at the sew and sews gave me. It is a little chenille quilt.
So easy I tought but long and boring all those lines. I could not wait to cut between thoses lines and see the magic happen. I bought a cutter made by Olaf to do exactly that chenille .
I cut , and I cut, and I cut some more...
Big hole and a big ripπŸ˜₯😫

What was I to do to repair that.πŸ˜•
I kind of put it aside for awhile...
No, I have to do it.
Iron-on.
See pics

Now need to wash and dry to get the chenille effect....
Yey!
Another quilt done!
Ps I iron the iron-on and put a little bit of stitches in it to.

Baby hand spun quilt

For those who wants info on our biking trip...
We are not gone yet'😝
Leaving the 9th of May .
Hubby finished my luggage rack and is now working on his. He is amazing. Everything he does look and is so professional ! You can not buy anything that come close to what he is making.
So my luggage rack is ready. I am not packed yet. I have another week to work and then I have a week off. The week off will be busy with last minutes preparation  and packing. The week before our departure, I am working. So I want to be ready that week off. And after that 7 weeks to enjoy ourselves on our motorcycle.   Yey!

So for now I am relaxing making fun easy project like this little baby quilt. The technique is interesting . It is called chenille . I will keep working on it and show you progress soon.

Cuddle quilt kit

I just finished a cuddle quilt kit!
Fun quilt to make, fast and easy.
Using the flip and sew method. You start and in no time you have a finished already quilted quilt. The binding was a bit of a challenge but finally done.
Here are some pics!

Cuddle kit

I was in Rockland Maine last year with hubby.
He was taking woodworking courses at Lie-Nielson.
So, with lots of time on my hands I looked for quilting shop.
I found a small cosy little one, can not remember the name now, but was a great little store!
That is where I found this kit with cuddle fabric. Looked easy enough....
I did not get at it right away but saw at my local quilting store some cuddle backing. So I will do it. Then Martha on her Facebook page put a link to the Missouri star quilting company that showed how to put together such quilts.  Great tips!
So now quilt is done.
Need to be squared and binded.

Sew and sews

What a great day at the quiltery !
I found great advice on the border for my retreat quilt.
The girls liked my grand illusion☺️!
I got my background fabric for Peggy's beautiful quilt.
Learned a neat stitch with Martha. (Thanks Martha) It is the hand quilting stitch but done by machine.😝
Phew... Quite the full day.
Oh and yes like always some good fabric came home again with me.
Oh and we had a little demo of the longarm machine.   😍
I loooove the longarm machine.

We also talked about the bags that the girls wants to make. I am letting them decide on that because I will be away for the next 2 meetings!

We greatly missed lynn and Jackie.
Hope to see you very soon.

Quilting done on grand illusion

Yeh!
I am done free motion quilting the grand illusion from Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.
It is far from perfect but better done then perfect.
It was my first time doing stitch in the ditch. I used my small sewing machine with the stitch in the ditch foot and the walking foot. I have lots of puckering that way. Next time that I want to do stitch in the ditch to stabilize the quilt I will use the power quilter and do it free motion.
I already have the binding and it is turquoise. I am debating if I should do traditional binding or flange. Flange I would use the sewing machine for everything but I will lose most of my points in the pieced border, because it would be wider.
Decision.πŸ˜•

Grand illusion mystery quilt

I have made Bonnie Hunter 's last mystery quilt and loved it. The quilt is finished, I should say the quilt top and now the quilting. Basting for me is a nightmare. Everybody on the Internet creates for free motion quilting lap quilts, baby quilts, wall hanging. No one is doing huge quilt. Basting is actually what will make or brake your free motion quilting success.
I do not have a big enough floor surface in my house that I can use to baste huge quilts. And I love making huge quilts. The grand illusion is pinned like you would not believe. See the picture... And yet I have shifting and puckering. So basting with a q snap works for small but not large quilts.
I have a frame but so far would not be able to install it. The take up bar would fast become awkward with the pins anyway. The only solution I see in the future is a longarm quilting machine. The space is a bit of the draw back I have to say...
I do see one in my near future...
